Health lighting technology standards upgraded; human-centric lighting emerges as the industry's new growth track.

With the rise of consumption upgrades and growing health awareness, healthy lighting has emerged as the lighting industry's fastest-growing niche segment, driving rapid advancements in both technical standards and product innovations. The recently released "Method for Evaluating Healthy Lighting" (GB/T 37952-2019), along with several other industry-specific group standards, has jointly established a comprehensive evaluation system tailored to diverse lighting scenarios. This shift is propelling the industry from simply meeting basic "parameter compliance" toward delivering optimized "experience-driven" solutions, with Human Centric Lighting technology increasingly becoming the key competitive edge.
The core of healthy lighting lies in achieving a harmonious alignment between light exposure and the human body's natural circadian rhythm. While traditional lighting products typically focus only on basic parameters like brightness and color temperature, healthy lighting systems leverage advanced technologies such as spectral optimization and intelligent dimming to mimic the dynamic changes in natural daylight. This helps regulate the body’s melatonin secretion, thereby enhancing sleep quality and boosting productivity. Professor Qiang Liu’s team at Wuhan University has developed two groundbreaking models—the Model for Color Preference Index (MCPI) and the Color Discrimination Model (CDM)—which quantitatively assess the color-rendering performance of lighting from three key dimensions: color preference, color fidelity, and color discrimination. These models address the limitations of conventional color-rendering metrics, which fail to allow cross-color-temperature comparisons or effectively measure subjective visual perceptions. As a result, they have already been successfully applied across various fields, including cultural heritage exhibitions, education, cosmetics, and fresh-food retail. For instance, in educational settings, healthy lighting solutions can automatically adjust both color temperature and brightness according to different activities—such as classroom instruction or independent study—thereby reducing eye strain. Meanwhile, in supermarket fresh-food sections, optimized lighting spectra enhance the vibrancy and appeal of food products, ultimately driving higher consumer engagement and sales conversions.
Technological innovation and supportive policies are driving the rapid expansion of the healthy lighting market. On the technology front, continuous breakthroughs have been made in areas such as LED chip spectrum optimization, precise sensor detection, and AI-driven dynamic control algorithms, equipping healthy lighting products with enhanced adaptability to various environments. Upstream companies are ramping up R&D efforts on high-quality LED chips, while midstream firms are introducing modular, upgradeable smart lighting fixtures. Meanwhile, downstream applications are expanding beyond residential and office settings into critical sectors like healthcare, elderly care, and education. At the policy level, documents such as the "Healthy China 2030" Planning Outline and the Action Plan for High-Quality Development of the Intelligent Detection Industry clearly endorse the research, development, and promotion of healthy lighting products. As a result, the application rate of healthy lighting in newly constructed green buildings and renovated existing structures continues to rise. According to forecasts, by 2025, the healthy lighting market is expected to surpass 30 billion yuan, with an annual compound growth rate exceeding 25%, making it a key engine propelling the industry toward high-quality development.
